  • Graduation Class of 2016

    On December 1, 2016, the London School of Public Relations – Jakarta held its annual graduation ceremony for class of 2016. This event is held at the Ballroom of the Ritz Carlton – Jakarta Pacific Place and attended by approximately 1,046 students. Because of the number of graduates is quite a lot, this event was divided into two sessions. For the morning session it was attended by students from three majors undergraduate programs, namely: Mass Communication, DMCA, Performing Arts Communication.

    Then, there are also some students from three majors graduate programs, namely: Mass Media Management, Marketing Communication, Corporate Communications, International Relations Communication. And also some students from the London School Beyond Academy.

    In the morning session of the event opened with a procession of the senate and continued with speeches from Chairman Graduation Events, Mr. Dr. Andre Ikhsano, M.Si. He said that from the force in 2016, there were 92% of students who graduate on time, 40% among them already have jobs, 50% had ipk 3.00 to 3.50, and 24% had a cum laude GPA of 3.51 or above.

    Then, Mrs. Prita Kemal Gani, MBA, MCIPR, APR also gave her opening speech. She congratulated the students who have already graduated, and commanded them all to use and practice the knowledge gained during their stay at LSPR.

    Then there is also Mr. Chairul Tanjung, CEO of CT Corporation. He gave a message to the graduates that at the present time, competition among individuals getting tougher to find a job, therefore they have to think out of the box and keep the spirit. Dr. Paul Smith, Country Director British Council Indonesia, also congratulated the graduates and said he was very happy to be invited into a graduation ceremony held by one of the best college which he had visited in Indonesia, namely: LSPR. Dr. Ir. Illah Sailah, Ms also gave her speech and congratulations to all the graduates.

    Then the ceremony continued with the giving of appreciation by Mr. Kemal Effendi Gani as Chairman of Yayasan Pesona Pribadi Sejahtera to Mr Chairul Tanjung, Dr. Paul Smith, and Dr. Illah Sailah, MS.

  • LSPR Representative in JENESYS Programme 2016

    One of the STIKOM The London School of Public Relations Jakarta student, Cynthia Sandra Tidajoh trusted by the Directorate General of ASEAN Cooperation from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia to participate on the JENESYS Programme 2016.

    JENESYS Programme (Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths) is a project advanced by the Japanese government from the standpoint of providing a foundation for strong solidarity within Asia through large-scale youth exchange also aimed to promoting mutual understanding and friendly relations. As one of the implementing organizations for this programme, JICE (Japan International Cooperation Center) is an organizations that have the responsible of conducting the programme in cooperation with various local governments, schools, and international exchange organizations in each area. In this batch of JENESYS Programme 2016 that carry out the Economic Partnership focuses on Trade and Investment: Transportation System and Tourism, Indonesia sent 19 participants that consist of the staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, National Development Planning Agency, the government bank staff, and students. Besides the ASEAN Member States, Timor-Leste and India also take part in this programme.

    In 9 days from 24 October 2016-1 November 2016, Cynthia and other participants are invited to see how the development and sophistication of the Japanese transportation, as well as enjoy the beauty of the Japanese cultures by visiting some of the strategic cities such as Tokyo, Yokohama, Nagoya, Shin-siro, Tokoname, Kariya, and others, which is a series of such programs. They also got the chance to meet Japanese Government Leaders during the visit to a Government office, leaders of major corporations in Japan as well as interact directly with local communities in Japan.

    Cynthia who had also an ASEAN-Indonesia Youth Ambassador 2011 feel very proud and grateful to be again entrusted the task to strengthen the good relations between ASEAN and Japan, by following the JENESYS Programme 2016. This is showned through her enthusiasm in carrying out the tasks along the programme. In several times she also had the opportunity to give a Thank You Speech to the Lecturer in the programme. As the young generation, she believes this programme gives her so many lessons and benefits that can be used as reference for developing Indonesia. The Japanese discipline and time punctuality culture, technological sophistication, and how resilience and productive the elderly from the Japanese society in their work is the good point from Japan that she can bring to help her society development in Indonesia.

    At the end of the JENESYS Programme, all the participants had the opportunity to discuss the strategic discussions action plan that they have to do after returning to the home countries. Strengthening the cooperation and interaction with Japan in economic, socio-cultural and other sectors is promising to be improved, not only the “Government to Government” but also ‘People to People’. Besides that the communication between countries and participants with the organizers of the Japanese government and JICE will continue to do.

  • Dean of Business Studies Campus A LSPR Gives Lecture at ZIBAT, Denmark

    Copenhagen, Denmark —Mr Taufan Teguh Akbari, Dean of Business Studies Campus A of the London School of Public Relations (LSPR-Jakarta), gave lectures at Zealand Institute of Business and Technology (ZIBAT) in Denmark. The two-week Lecturer Exchange Program was held from November 7 to 18, in two campuses in different cities. He taught at ZIBAT Naestved and ZIBAT Roskilde for four sessions each week respectively. His expertise and knowledge range from entrepreneurship and innovation, to marketing and sales, and youth leadership.

    In the Innovation and Entrepreneurship classes, Mr Taufan talked about Youth Leadership in the Social Age. He opened up the presentation stating that approximately 60 percent of the Indonesian population is below 30, or around 170 million out of 255 million. Such number of productive range of ages is expected to lead the economy by 2025. The number of Indonesian young people, particularly social entrepreneurs, or so-called sociopreneurs have escalated in the past 10 years, he said. As technology now plays a pivotal role in youth’s world, Mr Taufan asserted that their highly creative ideas seem to release expeditiously. They have been using social media in a positive light. Many Indonesian youth hunger and possess great desire to contribute and seek practical solutions, in order to make Indonesia a much more desirable place to live in.

    In this speeding information era, many business have faced struggles in customizing their position with the customers, and Mr Taufan asserted that doing business is no longer about transactions, branding and campaigning, but has shifted to bonding, relationship and committing. And Indonesian youth have been noticing upon this shifting paradigm. Therefore, nowadays leadership is believed to be about impact; that the social era is oriented around how to formulate value with and by connecting people to people. That is the greatest challenge of this generation upon business leadership as well as other kinds of leadership.

    Another discussions in the International Marketing and Sales Classes, Mr Taufan talked about “Understanding Indonesian Business Culture”. He showed the cultural diversity and intercultural business in the companies have absolute strength. For instance, Indonesian co-workers would expect to be clearly directed by the boss, power is usually centralised, control is expected and managers are very respected. As Indonesia is a collectivist society, individuals are also expected to conform to the ideals of the society.

    Mr Taufan also explained what would the strategies be like if a foreign businessman wants to build up a business relationship with Indonesia. One thing for sure is that relationship must be allowed to develop over the time and several visits are generally necessary to complete for a final contract. One thing for sure is to build a good and solid friendship in order to get the trust. The lecturers and students who listened to the presentations delivered positive responses that many of them would like to visit Indonesia in the near future. They were also considering to get an internship -as a part of their bachelor degree fulfilment- in business companies in Indonesia.

    Adding some spice to the classes, in the end of every session, Mr Taufan challenged the students to taste level 10 Maicih spiciest chips, one of the most successful chips selling through social media Twitter. Their faces turned red as they felt the burn in their mouths. After completing the two-week lecturing, of eight sessions , Mr Taufan expressed his beatitude and gratitude for the opportunity to experience teaching, both Danish and international classes, in Denmark. He hoped that LSPR and ZIBAT could maintain the good relationship and continue with the existing lecturer exchange cooperation with each other.

     

  • Awarding Night ECU and City & Guilds

    On 26 September 2016, the postgraduate students from LSPR attended Awarding Night for ECU and City & Guilds. This event was held to give awards to the students who got the highest score in the test subjects Social Media Business and Strategic Issue Management. This exam is held by LSPR in collaboration with Edith Cowan University (ECU) and City & Guilds.

    The event opened with opening speech from Dr. Rino F. Boer. Then proceed with the awarding and a photo session. There were 50 students who received the award, 43 people for Social Media for Business and 7 students for Strategic Issue Management. In addition to the students, the event was also attended by Prof. Jude Elund as representatives of the ECU, Ms. Noormala Saad as a representative of City & Guilds, and also the teaching of the both subjects.

  • Public Relations dan Entrepreneurship by PRIA

    The Public Relations Institute of Australia (PRIA) held a conference on 14 to 15 November 2016 at the Four Point by Sheraton Hotel, Darling Harbour, Sydney. On this occasion, Mrs. Prita Kemal Gani MBA, MCIPR, APR (Founder & Director of LSPR – Jakarta and ASEAN President Public Relations Network) has the opportunity to be one of the speakers with the theme “Public Relations and Entrepreneurship”.

  • ADM Fair UI 2016

    Saturday, November 19 2016, Vocational Education Administration Program of University of Indonesia (UI) held a closing ceremony for ADM Fair ’16 in Parking Lot of Vocational Program. ADM Fair ’16 is a series of activities done by several departments namely; Careers Department, the Department of Arts and Culture, Sports Department, Ministry of Social Affairs, and the Department of Career Development. This activity is also a work program which attempted to show all aspects of element of administration capabilities in such work.

    Theme for this year was ‘Bakti Kami Untuk Negeri’ and presented the concept of Charity. The definition of these themes was all students of Vocational Administration UI, became a place for the entire society where Indonesian youngsters who have a social life, sportmanship and creativity and a high sense of empathy towards fellow human beings, gather together. Donations collected by ADM Fair ’16 UI was given to a social community called Kandank Jurank. ADM activities UI Fair ’16 had started since last August with a series of events, namely; ADM Olympic Games Fair 2016, Social Service, and Career Day.

    The closure of ADM Fair that starts from three o’clock, featuring internal bands f4om Vokasi UI, HIM PARIS, and Bluband which is a band from HIM ADM. In addition to that, the closing of the Fair ADM also announced the winners for Champions League Basketball ADM, futsal, volleyball, and badminton, as well as donors to Kandank oenyerahan Jurank.   • The 7th ASEAN TALKS: An Efficient Approach To Better Integration on ASEAN And China

    China recently became a country with the economy and is increasingly playing an important and influential role in the global economy. The 7th ASEAN TALKS Live from LSPR Jakarta that was held on Friday november 18th 2016 at LSPR Reserach Center talked about “Comprehensive Communication : An Efficient Approach to Better Integration On ASEAN And China.” The 7th ASEAN TALKS Live hosted by Mrs. Yuliana R. Prasetyawati, M.M with two guest speakers, namely Mr. Wang Zelian, The Director of Press and Public Affairs Mission of The People’s Republic of China to ASEAN and Mr. Tim Young, The Head and Chief Correspondent, China Economic Daily.

    The 7th ASEAN TALKS opened with the presentation session by Mr. Wang Zelian about The Integration of China and ASEAN. According to Mr. Zelian, China and ASEAN need each other because a community of common destiny and shared a lot of things in common together such as neighborhood, history, values and future. He also stated that we have such a big chances to learn each other and due to a lot of similarities that we have it should be easy to do. In his session he also talked that there are still a lot of miss understanding between ASEAN and China that are need to be straightened like the fear that other countries have for China even though China is far from what they thought and even China has strong economic influence, they would like to share their knowledge to ASEAN. In the end of his session he talked about the youth role in reaching prosperity for both China and ASEAN and China’s plan to gives schoolarship for ASEAN students to strengthen the coorpertation between China And ASEAN.

    The event then continued with the presentation of Mr. Tim Young. In the beginning of his session he talked about his experiences in Indonesia and then specifically talked about what China and Indonesia have been done and what we want in common. He stated that we want our people to enjoy a better life and in order to make this happen we need a lot of support from technology, education, and international community. In the middle of his presentation he also showed the audiences some videos of him with talented youths from Indonesia. “Creativity is the key to prosperity, together we can have our bright future.” With that statement, Mr. Young closed his session.

    The event continued with a disscusion session. Both of the audiences and speaker participate enthusiastically on this session and finally, the 7th ASEAN TALKS ended with the conferment of memorial charter for the speaker by the founder of LSPR Jakarta Mrs. Prita Kemal Gani, MBA, MCIPR, ARP, and a photo session.   • LSPR Public Speaking Won Speak Up III Infinity Creative Speech Competition

    Achievement is something to be proud of by anyone who receives it. An approved efforts, and dignity, is the special reward for anyone who has poured his/her heart out in the process of getting an achievement.

    One of LSPR Club has managed to got a taste of what an achievement through victory tastes like. 12 – 14 November 2016, LSPR Public Speaking Club participated in the “Speak Up III Infinity Creative Speech Competition”, a Public Speaking competition held by State University of Jakarta. Sophie, student of MC18 – EXCL managed to triumph in the competition as the winner, after being the best out of 50 or more participants in the competition. The topic of the competition was “Innovating Movement”, which was intended to improve the creativity and innovation of the younger generation to contribute to the development of his country in the midst of globalization movements.   • Workshop Trailblazer 2: “Market Validation and Business Model”

    Trailblazer is a program from LSPR that work with KIBAR to help LSPR student to make a start-up business from the start. The workshop was on Saturday, 27th October 2016, at 10 AM, in LSPR Campus C, Room 12. The first workshop was already held on Saturday, 22 October 2016. The spoke person of the second workshop are Jaka Wiradisuria, Head of New Product from ruma.co.id, and Prasetyo Andy Wicaksono, Head of IT Development from Jakarta Smart City. This program or workshop shows step by step on how to create and sustained a start up business, and the first batch of trailblazer objective is the participants will be successful on start-up business and become an inspiration for the next generation of Trailblazers.

He told and showed the process of market validation using a javelin board, this board consist of target customer, the problems, the solution of the problems, and the assumption, to help us to identifying and answering the needs and want from the customer so we can ease the possibility of making wrong step further and satisfying what customer need. The participants were very active in the discussion and showed the interest of the workshop session.

    The second session talked and discussed about Business Model by Prasetyo Andy Wicaksono. In marketing, business model is important to help us answer some problems on customer needs. It is similar with the javelin board, but business model have more complex problems such as the channel to distribute to the client or user, income and expense on making the application, the unfair advantage to write down what makes our product or service can not be copied by other competitors.

    The workshop was closed at around 5 PM, with a photo session with the spoke person, Prasetyo Andy Wicaksono and the team from KIBAR. The next agenda for the first batch of trailblazer is ‘Hackathon’ that will be held on 19th to 20th November 2016.(Vinnie)
